The neutral one

If you want something to ground yourself, something that you can enjoy for a long time, and use as a reference - this is the Clear MG.

Neutral but not really recessed in the bass, even and slightly emphasized mids, and then again some restrain in the treble. This is also how you could describe the Sennheiser HD650, but the Clear MG is basically the direct upgrade. Better dynamics, more punch, more resolution and precision. If you aren't looking for a specialist for one thing or another, but a neutral reference point, check out the Clear MG.

Reviewers are saying:

Whathifi.com:

Focal has done a terrific job with the Clear Mg. They’re talented performers that stay comfortable over extended listening sessions. Add excellent build and finish into the equation and we think they're right up there with the best at the price. Highly recommended.

Techradar.com:

These headphones have the ability to magnify details while still being kind to poorly recorded source material. While the soundstage isn’t the widest available, their pin-point accurate imaging more than makes up for it. If you can afford them, the Focal Clear Mg could be the last headphones you’ll ever buy.

Headphones.com:

Measurements

What does this mean?

The black line is something that could be called the „ideal“ curve of what a headphone should sound like. The Harman Research Group has a range of scientific studies around audio and the human perception of it - one of which was, how should a headphone sound like to be favored by a majority of people, no matter the age or other demographic variables? This result is called the Harman target.

From left to right we have the sub bass, bass, mids and then the curve finally tilts upward where the treble begins - this part of the frequency spectrum gets amplified naturally by the shape of the human ear.

The Clear MG has a slight emphasis in the mids around 1.5kHz, but is very neutral in the bass with recessed treble. It is still very detailed, but offers a very non-fatiguing listening experience.
